Moving into your new home can be an exciting experience, but the build up to moving day can be very stressful. We have created this short moving homes checklist guide to alleviate your stress and help keep you on track.
Declutter Your House & Book a Removals Company ASAP
As you are moving house. This is an excellent opportunity to go through your possessions and decide what is worth keeping and what isn’t. Before you start boxing everything up, filter through your old clothes, furniture, electronic items and essential items to decide what is worth keeping and what can be dropped off at your local charity shop.
Keep Your Details Up to Date!
A lot of important organisations will have your details stored on their databases and unless you remember to notify them, they will remain the same and any important documents will be sent to your existing address.
You should notify the change of address the following organisations:
- The local council
- Your employer
- DVLA
- Your GP and Dental Practitioner
- Phone / Internet providers
- Any Banking companies you are with
- TV licensing
- Electoral Roll
- Car Insurance Providers
Packing Supplies
Nobody wants to move into a house that has not been packed properly. Preparation is key to ensure you have a swift move.
An important step in your moving home checklist should be making sure you have the right items / supplies to the get the job done:

Packaging & Label Boxes
Most removal companies today give you a choice of whether you would like them to do all the boxing & packing.
Once you have sealed a box, label each storage box clearly with the specific room and short description of the content included in the box.
Use colour coded labels for each box based on the types of items that are included inside. You can stay organised, and find items you are looking for without opening the box.
If there are any fragile items that you are packing, it is advisable that you carefully wrap these items in bubble wrap. Don’t overload any storage boxes as they could get damaged when moving.
You may also want to make a note of any boxes that contain heavy, fragile or contain high value possessions.
Moving Day Packing List

Before you have even thought about moving boxes into your new home, unpacking and settling in is advisable to give your new home a deep, thorough clean. If you have got expenditure money, then book a professional cleaner to arrive ahead of your removal company arriving so they can get started earlier before all the boxes and furniture arrive.
